Welsh Mountain Wheelmen 2017 Season

Got the need, the need for speed?

If you’re nodding your head yes, you’ve gotta check out our riding club, The Welsh Mountain Wheelmen. The only club of its kind in Lancaster County, the Wheelmen was conceived by our owner, Mark Branle, to cater to the cyclist with a thirst for something more than a group ride.

Nope, this isn’t another group ride. It’s not a crowded crit, either. Instead it’s an informal road race that’s all about great sportsmanship and great results. How exactly does it work? Riders are grouped according to ability. Those with the slowest average speeds start the race first. A few minutes later, the next fastest group goes, and so on. The idea is for each group to work together to cross the finish line first.

You’ll ride in a tight paceline and you’ll learn how to devise race strategy, both as a group and as an individual. As a team, you’ll figure out how to attack hills, how to track down the group in front of you, and how to hold off the group chasing you down. In the end, you have to decide if you’ve got the legs to go it alone and sprint for top placement.

Anyone can win, from UCI registered racer to rookie D rider.

And it’s fun. We support one another’s progress. No egos allowed. If you get dropped, don’t worry. It’ll just make you faster. Just ask some of our WMW vets. Their times have dropped, and so has their weight!

For more info, join our facebook group, Welsh Mountain Wheelmen or ask Rob or Mark for details! Rides are on Wednesday nights.
